Just in time for the holidays
When did it become December!? Ok, that’s a rhetorical question, but you know what we mean…
All of a sudden, event season is in full swing, and while all the dresses in our wardrobe are working overtime (more on this soon), we’re also loving a fresh new approach to beauty to change up our holiday style.
Here are four different looks we recommend trying asap, along with tips to recreate them at home, thanks to makeup artist Kristin Brett.
THE PLUM LIP
Sometimes it’s easy to get carried away with covering everything up (particularly during event season!). However we love a statement lip pared back with a bare face, and it’s perfect for giving your skin a little break during the holidays. Instead of using any foundation, focus on a beautiful skincare routine with favourite, cult products (here we used Dermalogica Skin Smoothing Cream and used Nars Creamy Concealer only where needed). For the deep plum lip, try Mac Matte lipstick in Instigator, which gives you a wow factor next to paired back eyes and skin.
For this look, start with one of our must have products, Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser. This is great for those who feel comfortable with a light, natural finish and minimal coverage. Finish off your base with the Tom Ford Shade & Illuminate palette (which we have also used on the centre of the eyes). This festive season we’re all about breaking the rules, so here we have skipped mascara and used Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Eye crayon in Blacquer in the water line which makes the eyes pop.
SHIMMER & SHINE
This look is all metallic, all the time. It’s ideal for those not wanting to wear too much makeup, but still wanting a stand-out look.
Keep your base as light as possible and add some definition with blush rather than a bronzer. We love Mac Mineralize Blush in Just a Whisp which has a gorgeous metallic undertone. On eyes, Chantecaille Mermaid Eye Colour in Copper was applied with a wet brush. For lips, a base of Becca Beach Tint in Guava finished off with some pink metallic pigment on top. Sugary but not too sweet.
BE SO BOLD
This look is super easy to create – perfect for NYE celebrations. Keep you base minimal, then apply Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Eye Crayon in Blacquer as an eye base. This product is fantastic for a dark eye makeup look as it sets in 20 seconds (without moving or creasing!), yet it’s super creamy and effortless to apply. Finish off your bold eye by using your fingers to press on a dusting of dark navy glitter from Tom Ford Eyeshadow Quad in Titanium Smoke.
